I was asked the other day what I have against Corporate...
The answer is absolutely nothing, I've loved every one of my experiences for the richness of learning and growth it afforded me. I am who I am because of them.
But I do think that we need to do more to invoke true change.
To harness the power of the individuality and incredible gifts of the humans that dwell within our corporate structures.
What we are doing isn't enough and real change will take incredible courage. I work with women because they are an often untapped source of brilliance....untapped because to access it, we need to allow them to truly bring who they are.
And because I'm passionate about helping the ones who are just existing under all the layers of pretense and acceptance seeking.
This article comes from the heart with a dose of strategy, and some hard truths - I'd love to know your thoughts and brace myself for the challenge.
But starting the conversation is part of the courage that's required.
Hey there! Today, I'm talking about what it is that you really want. And let's be clear...I'm not actually wading into the Equality Debate today...but I am challenging you to face up to what you really want.
See, I know what it is to feel like a victim of inequality in my career. I know what it is to feel like injustice and lack of understanding were constant partners. But I also know what it feels like to start to question that load that you feel like you are carrying, to open your eyes and realise that maybe the problem is that you want something different now.
It takes courage to start to really lift the covers and honestly examine our lives and careers/businesses, and even more to admit to ourselves what we can do to change things.
In business, it's critical to work out how to play to your strengths, so why do we find it so hard to find and acknowledge our strengths?
For some reason, most of us seem to struggle with identifying the things that we are great at and just simply admitting to ourselves that it’s a strength.
The people who get ahead though? Without feeling like it's a constant struggle...they are the ones who figure this out. Let's see how!
Well, hey there, my friend!
You see, so many women that I talk to spend a good deal of time telling me why starting their own business to replace their corporate income won't work for them.
They are so stuck in all the "reasons" that they can't do it, that they can't see past them to realise what is actually possible for them.
And it's all untrue!
You are contemplating something so far outside of your comfort zone that your ego is freaking out. It's really easy to slip into telling yourself all the reasons why that won't work, and why you just have to stay in your comfort zone.
So today, we are talking about how to recognise (and get on top of!) the stories that you are telling yourself about your potential.
Today, I want to tackle the "have it all debate".
It's a topic that plagues so many of my clients, and frankly many women in the corporate world. The pressure to make everything work and be the perfect wife/partner/mother/career woman/volunteer/homemaker/entertainer and a thousand other roles, whilst being perfectly presented and "balanced" is immense.
But is it really?
I think that often a whole heap of that pressure comes from ourselves, and the secret to figuring out how to have it all these days (without sacrificing the stuff that really matters to you) lies in getting down and being honest with yourself about what "all" is for you.
I'm gonna challenge you today to think seriously about this because the challenge of having it all is bringing us unstuck.
